History:
First used as early as 1942 on the Eastern Front in WWII, attack helicopters are also known as helicopter gunships due to their heavy armament. They are used to provide direct air support for ground troops as well as to destroy grouped enemy ranks on the ground. It is estimated that a single attack helicopter can wipe out targets worth about 17 times its own production cost before being destroyed!
