History:
In 1637, the H.M.S. Sovereign of the Seas was a powerful ship. It had 102 cannons, which demonstrated King Charles I's aim for English naval dominance.
Its opulent decor, adorned with lavish gilded carvings, distinguished it as a symbol of prestige in the Royal Navy. Renamed Sovereign and later Royal Sovereign, the ship remained a formidable force for decades. In 1697, a fire destroyed the ship in Chatham, ending its history.
