The USS Worden (CG-18), a Leahy-class guided missile cruiser, was commissioned on August 3, 1963. Named after Admiral John Lorimer Worden, she played a crucial role during the Cold War. The USS Worden was made in Maine by Bath Iron Works. It had modern missile systems and electronic warfare abilities.
Throughout her service, the USS Worden was stationed primarily in the Pacific as part of the U.S. Seventh Fleet. She was actively involved in the Vietnam War, providing naval gunfire support, launching missiles, and conducting search and rescue missions.
